A digital reconstruction of Earl Richard of Cornwall's Great Hall at Tintagel Castle, as it might have looked in 1260. At the west end of the hall, there was a narrow screened passage dividing the main hall from the pantry and buttery, where food and drink were stored and prepared. At the west end of the hall, above the buttery, was a comfortable private chamber used by very important guests or the Castle's constable. It was probably accessed via an external timber stair. West of the hall and Solar range was a square building containing a kitchen. The small two-storey building on the left of the image with a stair on its east gable may have been accommodation for the castle's chaplain, or someone else of status. In the early part of the following century, buttresses were built against the east wall of the hall to support it and address subsidence.
