Windsor Castle - The Great Chamber (1476)

This is a draft reconstruction of the Great Chamber at Windsor Castle set out for the Garter Feast of 1476, based on the meticulous research of Dr Steven Brindle. Edward IV and the Garter Knights dined in this room on the evening of Sunday 28 April. A description of the occasion, reproduced in Anstis’ Black Book of the Garter, specifies who was present and how they were seated.

How this image was made

Software and tools used: Blender 3D, Cycles Render Engine, Substance 3D Painter, Photoshop

Notes: This reconstruction was one of seven images I was commissioned to produce for the book Windsor Castle: A Thousand Years of a Royal Palace, published by the Royal Collection Trust, 2018. A 3D model of the chamber was developed to include all its furnishings and decorations. An alternative perspective of the room with figures was chosen for the book, and this image wasn't published.
